Noise analysts who need to export complaint data for use in GIS applications.

Access to the ANOMS Noise Analyst Workbench is required.

The ESRI complaints export lets you export complaint information as an ESRI-format shapefile data set for use in GIS applications.

Understanding the ESRI format

The ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute) format describes geometric shapes in vector co-ordinates, such as polygons, lines and points. The ESRI Complaints Export automatically creates a complete data set of ESRI files with the extensions .dbf, .shp and .shx — these files must be kept together.

You can view the files using any ESRI-compliant application, such as ArcView GIS or MapObjects.

Reviewing exported fields

The export includes the following fields, in string format:

• Event Date
• Correlation ID
• Last Name
• Address
• City
• State
• Zip Code
• Latitude
• Longitude
• Complaint Number
• Caller Number
• Action Type

Note: Complaints with a latitude and/or longitude of 0 are not exported.

Running the ESRI complaint export

To export complaints in ESRI format:

1. Load the required complaints into the Complaints Browser.
2. In the Complaints Browser, select the required complaints. To export all the complaints in the browser, do not select any.
3. In the data area, right-click.
4. Select ESRI Export.
5. Select the location for the ESRI files.
6. Type a file name.
7. Click Save.
