When ANOMS detects a noise event, it automatically attempts to assign the event to the aircraft most likely to have caused it.
Cleaning track data
The accuracy of noise event analysis depends on the accuracy and completeness of the track data. ANOMS applies processing steps to clean up radar data and derive additional information, including:
- Removal of radar reflections
- Smoothing and splining of the radar data
Classifying events by pattern recognition
Assigning one or more aircraft or community noise sources to a noise event is defined as event classification. ANOMS uses a pattern recognition approach to automatically match flight tracks to noise events.
Automatic event classification is a difficult pattern recognition problem because of the dynamic, multiple-aircraft environment around an airport. The matching process has been refined through many years of field observation and tested at leading airports worldwide, where comparisons of field observations to automatic matches have shown a very high level of accuracy.
When a noise event is matched to an operation, the two records are linked by a shared Correlation ID.
