Managing Points of Interest on the map
Who is this article for?Noise analysts who need to mark and manage locations of interest on the map.
Access to the ANOMS Noise Analyst Workbench is required.
Points of Interest allow you to mark and save specific locations on the map for quick reference and analysis.
Creating a new group
To organise your Points of Interest:
- On the Points tab, right-click in the list area and choose New Folder.
- Type the name in the group name text box, then press Enter to save.
Creating a Point of Interest
You can create Points of Interest from the Feature Manager or directly from the map using the context menu.
To create a Point of Interest from the Feature Manager:
- On the Map toolbar, click the Feature Manager button, or on the main toolbar point to Map, then click Feature Management.
- Click the Points tab.
- Select the group folder that will contain the new point.
- Click the New Point button, or right-click in the references list area and click New Point.
- In the Name box, type the name of the Point of Interest.
- Enter the Latitude and Longitude values directly (they must be in decimal format), or click the pick button and then click on the map.
- Enter the Elevation value in feet, if required.
- Click Save.
Note: The elevation defaults to the MRP elevation.
Adding a Point of Interest from the map
To add a Point of Interest directly from the map:
- Click on the map, then right-click and choose Set Locator.
- Right-click again and choose Add Point of Interest.
A new Point of Interest is added to the map. You can modify its properties on the Points tab in the Feature Manager.
Snapping the Locator to a Point of Interest
To snap the Locator to a Point of Interest:
- Click the Point of Interest on the map, then right-click and choose Set Locator.
The Locator snaps to the object.
Modifying a Point of Interest
To modify an existing Point of Interest:
- In the Feature Manager, click the Points tab.
- Select the Point of Interest by clicking it once.
- In the Name box, type the name of the Point of Interest.
- Enter the Latitude and Longitude values directly (they must be in decimal format), or click the pick button and then click on the map.
- Enter the Elevation value in feet, if required.
- Click Save.
Note: The elevation defaults to the MRP elevation.
Deleting a Point of Interest group
To delete a Point of Interest group:
- Select the Point of Interest group by clicking on it.
- Click the Delete button, or right-click and select Delete from the menu.

- Click the Delete button, or right-click and select Delete from the menu.
Adding annotations to the map
Use the Annotation Manager to place your own text — notes or comments — on the map display. You can control the text's placement, alignment, rotation, size, and font.
