Understanding the ANOMS system architecture and data processing
Who is this article for?Noise analysts and airport staff who want to understand the components that make up ANOMS.
Access to the ANOMS Noise Analyst Workbench is required.
ANOMS is a comprehensive noise monitoring system that imports, processes, analyses, and reports aircraft noise and flight track data through a series of integrated modules.
Understanding what ANOMS is made of
ANOMS gathers and combines data from several sources, including aircraft noise recorded on remote noise monitoring terminals (NMTs), operations data from the local air traffic control tower, flight track data from radar systems, concerns and complaints reported by the airport community, information about aircraft owners, weather data, census data, and map data.
ANOMS processes and integrates this data by automatically linking noise events at each NMT to specific aircraft operations and to registered complaints. This lets you identify, accurately and efficiently, the aircraft noise source and its effect on the community. ANOMS assists you in communicating analysed data in customised letters, reports, and maps.
Exploring the system architecture
ANOMS consists of four purpose-built services to support your environmental capacity management programme:
- Rover is a communications server that collects, stores, and securely transmits the various information inputs that combine to give a complete picture of operations and noise impact. Rover supports various connection types (serial, dial-up, TCP/IP, and wireless) as well as a range of input sources (noise monitors, radar systems, plan feeds, weather, cameras, and more)
- ANOMS Server manages the receipt of all incoming data and processes it to create information, correlations, and summaries that are then available to authorised system users
- Noise Analyst Workbench is a highly configurable Windows smart-client application that provides all the data management, analysis, and presentation tools required by the noise analyst or environmental officer
- System Management Workbench is a Windows smart-client application that accesses the built-in management features of ANOMS components, particularly Rover and the ANOMS Server. Features include customisable alarms to alert you to changed system status or input feed availability, as well as comprehensive insights and trends for analysing how the system is performing over time
Understanding how ANOMS imports and processes data
ANOMS automatically imports and processes data from several sources — noise monitors, air traffic control systems, complaint channels, and weather sensors.
