Creating a flight corridor
Who is this article for?Noise analysts who need to define departure or arrival corridors.
Access to the ANOMS Noise Analyst Workbench is required.
Corridors are made up of a series of gates linked together to create a tunnel that aircraft fly through, constructed by entering the centre point of each corridor gate on the map.
Before you start
Tip: Load a set of tracks first to get an idea of the route, and use the 2D map setting when positioning corridor gates. For corridor gates, the cross-hairs mark the centre of the gate, so only one point is required per gate.
Note: For departures, create the corridor gates moving away from the runway. For arrivals, create the corridor gates moving towards the runway.
Important: When creating arrival corridors, create the first corridor gate at the start of the approach (away from the airport), then add the next corridor gates in the same direction as the approach to the runway. Keep the corridor's left on the left side of the approach — this is important when determining on which side of the corridor a violation occurred.
Creating a new corridor
To create a corridor:
- Open both the Map Browser and the Gates and Corridors window.
- On the Input menu, click Gate/Corridor Editor.
- Click the Corridors tab.
- Click Create.
- On the Map Browser, move the cursor to the centre of the first gate position, then click.
- Repeat the previous step to enter the centre point of each consecutive gate in the corridor.
- When all corridor gates have been entered, click End Create.
A temporary corridor name (C#) is displayed next to the corridor and in the corridor list.
Displaying an existing corridor
To display an existing corridor:
- Click the Corridors tab in the Gates and Corridors window.
- Select the corridor from the list.
The corridor appears on the Map Browser, where you can view it in 2D or 3D.
